Things You Should Know About Azure Backup Services in Nigeria

What is the most important when you select a backup system in Azure?

One of the requirements of Azure Backup is that the vaults are required to be present in the same region as the resource to be backed-up. Therefore, you should create three separate vaults for each region to protect your resources.

What are the benefits of Azure backup?

Keep data secure: Azure Backup provides solutions for securing data in transit and at rest. Centralized monitoring and management: Azure Backup provides built-in monitoring and alerting capabilities in a Recovery Services vault. These capabilities are available without any additional management infrastructure.

Microsoft Azure Backup is a cloud-based backup service that is part of a larger package offered to customers through Azure Recovery Services, Azure recovery service vault. Although cloud-based, you can use Azure Backup on-premises via Microsoft Azure Backup Server. Azure Backup is easy to set up and provides consistent copy, security, and management tools through the Azure portal.

Microsoft Azure in Nigeria
When it comes to On-premises, workloads are protected using the Microsoft Azure Recovery Services (MARS) agent for virtual machine backups. Integration with Azure Backup Server (MABS) or System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM).

You can use the virtual appliance with Azure Backup to back up SQL machine data in Azure, SAP HANA database files, folders, and system state in Azure. For example, a SQL database on an on-premises VMware Hyper-V VM (virtual computer) and a virtual machine that you create.

Backing up on Azure Servers

Azure Backup solutions provide IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) protection for servers hosted in Azure. This backup can be easily enabled using the Azure portal with little cost. This service is available for Windows and Linux virtual machines in Azure.

This service is integrated with the VSS service for Windows virtual machines to provide application consistent backups. For Linux VMs, a file-consistent backup is created.

Using Azure Backup:

Evaluate Your Needs

The first step is to determine your company’s data protection needs. The steps listed here are based on what you originally put in place from your backup. Many companies are confused about recovery plans. They may lack strategies that align with recovery goals and what to expect in a particular situation.

Certain London businesses must comply with laws, regulations, or markets to ensure the highest availability of services and disaster recovery. In the event of a catastrophic failure at the primary site of production, you should be prepared to recover your data and applications as planned.

Microsoft stores your backup information in Azure cloud storage, so it’s protected from anything that might harm the surrounding data centers. Backups stored in Azure can be your primary backup storage or an addition to another backup system you’ve already invested in.

Moreover, users can easily manage and operate their data files on their Windows Cloud PC at the time of on-premises system failure or any other disaster.

Backup Performance and Time

Every organization’s recovery plan should include key parameters for good backups, appropriate intervals for tasks that require backups and expected performance.

These parameters should be unique for each specific workload. Choose a time that you can afford to lose data, also known as a recovery point objective (RPO) and a time that you can afford to repair or restore service. This is your Recovery Time Objective (RTO). Also, Azure Backup can streamline the backup process by creating backups of disks in VMs (virtual machines) at the same time.

Wrapping Up

Considering all the key benefits you get from Azure Backup, it eliminates the administrative burden of managing on-premises backup solutions, purchasing additional storage, licensing, and troubleshooting poor backup strategies.

What can be backed up with Azure backup?

On Azure, you can easily recover your Windows and Linux virtual machines, specific workloads, system state or even files and folders from VM backup.

How do backups work in Azure?

The backup is optimized by backing up each VM disk in parallel. For each disk that’s being backed up, Azure Backup reads the blocks on the disk and identifies and transfers only the data blocks that changed (the delta) since the previous backup. Snapshot data might not be immediately copied to the vault.

Is Azure Backup full or incremental?

Microsoft Azure Backup leverages Incremental Backup technology, providing you secure, pay-as-you-go, highly scalable services to suit different requirements. In addition to Incremental Backups, these products also use compression, network throttling and offline seeding to further optimize resource consumption.

Does Azure Backup use VSS?

By default, Azure Backup takes a full VSS backup (it truncates the logs of application such as SQL Server at the time of backup to get application level consistent backup). If you’re using a SQL Server database on Azure VM backup, then you can modify the setting to take a VSS Copy backup (to preserve logs).
