Factors affecting the prices of steel rods (reinforcements) in Nigeria
As we have mentioned above, steel rods are very important in the construction industry. These items are multifunctional so it is almost impossible to construct in Nigeria today without these rods. If you are conversant with the market, you must have noticed that incessant changes in the prices of these materials.
Why do the prices of steel rods change so frequently? Several factors influence the frequent changes in the prices of these rods. We will discuss some of them in this section.
The quality of the rods is highly dependent on the kind of materials used and the efficiency of the manufacturing process. If high-quality materials are used and they are passed to a costly process, the steel rods are likely to be costly. However, the higher the quality of the product, the better for the user. This was followed by the open-hearth furnace and then the Bessemer process in England in the mid-19th century. With the invention of the Bessemer process, a new era of mass-produced steel began. Mild steel replaced wrought iron. The German states saw major steel prowess over Europe in the 19th century.
Further refinements in the process, such as basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS), largely replaced earlier methods by further lowering the cost of production and increasing the quality of the final product.
