Reasons to buy ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024)
- an unrivaled 18-inch Mini LED screen with a refresh rate of 240 Hz;
- excellent performance and very fast storage array;
- effective cooling system;
- comfortable full-sized keyboard
- sufficient number of modern connectors and wireless interfaces;
- bright design with RGB lighting.
Reasons to Consider ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024)
- there are no biometric means of identification of the owner and a card reader;
budget webcam 720p; - you have a flagship model of the previous generation.
Powerful gaming laptops of the maximum format have always been and are a rather niche category, which, although not very large, has a stable audience. The new ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024) is one of the brightest representatives of this category, both literally and figuratively.
It offers an excellent quality 18-inch Mini LED display that has an excellent level of brightness and color reproduction and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. The power of the laptop with a margin is enough for games and for any work tasks. Although it is worth noting that there was no significant jump in productivity compared to the previous generation.
Which is due to the same 4000 line of GeForce video cards and very minor differences of the 14th generation of Intel processors from the 13th. The laptop has an efficient cooling system, thanks to which the laptop works stably under high loads. And two M.2 drives in a RAID0 array demonstrate an impressive speed of operation.
Add to that a comfortable keyboard, a bright design with RGB lighting (if you are a connoisseur of such solutions) and a very generous set of supplies, which has everything you need and even more. Among the complaints, it is worth mentioning the lack of any biometric means of identifying the owner and the lack of a card reader, given the dimensions of the laptop.
And a very budget web camera. In general, the laptop makes a very pleasant impression from the point of view of use. But, if you already have last year’s top model, then the difference in power is not so drastic to make a replacement for a new one.
Design & Body
The company’s top gaming laptops have an interesting set of supplies and unusual packaging. This also applies to the new ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024). It is packed in a double box: the large outer one is the typical black one with the ROG logo. Gray interior with line name and anime comic on the back.
Considering the high price, it is not surprising that ASUS decided to provide the future owner of the laptop with everything necessary. So, in addition to the laptop, the box includes a backpack, a mouse, a 330W power supply, an additional 100W Type-C power supply, an optional replacement Armor Cap and documentation.
ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (2024) received a design close to last year’s models. It’s a massive 18-inch gaming laptop with plenty of RGB lighting. The laptop is almost entirely made of plastic with a matte surface.
As last year, the working surface is conditionally divided into two parts diagonally. And the upper part is made of translucent plastic. The lower one is black. A rather successful matte coating is used, which does not collect fingerprints very well.

The SCAR series is built from the ground up for gamers — and, of course, game developers. The Strix SCAR 18 can run all of the latest game engines, enabling you to unlock your creativity and try your hand at making the next great game.
Whether you’re a digital artist, streamer, video editor, or dabble with animation and game development, the Strix SCAR 18 has all the horsepower you need to take your creations to the next level. Featuring up to an Intel® Core™ i9 processor and up to an NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 40 Series Laptop GPU, complex projects on popular development tools like Unity and Autodesk render in a snap. You have what it takes to be the best on the battlefield, but are you ready to design the next one?
To accommodate such powerful components, the Strix SCAR 18’s chassis and motherboard were both redesigned to accommodate our new full-width heatsink, while the copper fins were moved even closer to the exhaust vents for more efficient cooling.
This unique heatsink is built from three different sections, surrounding the motherboard with densely packed fins for a total surface area of 195,509mm², a 82.5% increase from the 2022 Strix SCAR 17. This design maximizes the available pathing for hot air to escape the machine and drastically increases overall cooling.
Wrapping Up
Finally, most gaming laptops have a dual fan cooling system, but the SCAR 18 was able to push the performance envelope even further with the introduction of a third fan that helps keep the GPU and VRAM cool. Paired with seven heat pipes and Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal on both the CPU and GPU, the SCAR 18’s cooling system is a marvel of engineering.
Pros:
- Beautiful Screen
- No dead pixels
- Not much backlight bleed
- Nice full-size keyboard
- Feels solid
- Plays games well
- easy to setup
Cons:
- Coil whine is noticeable on silent mode during Timespy but do not hear it in other fan modes.
- Laptop 4090 is marketed strange and should be marketed as a 4080M as it is a 4080-desktop graphics card at a lower wattage.
- Currently only allowed to undervolt to -30 in the bios. Hopefully this will change in future bios updates as there is more potential at a higher undervolt.
Overall Review: I would recommend this laptop to anyone willing to spend the money.
