Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 Review (2024)

The review of the Acer Swift Go 14 showed that it is a practical and affordable ultraportable laptop that is great for working with documents and studying. Its configuration is sufficient for working with undemanding tasks, and a high-quality IPS display with good color rendering and a resolution of 2240×1400 is quite suitable for basic photo editing.

Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 Review (2024) Nigeriantech.com.ng

The laptop received a comfortable backlit keyboard, an efficient and quiet cooling system, a high-quality webcam with a resolution of 1440p, as well as a good set of connectors. In addition, it is worth adding a practical and durable metal case that looks neat. Although, of course, there are also some complaints about the laptop.

Although the touchpad has good sensitivity and a pleasant surface, the dimensions are quite modest. Autonomy is also not the strongest point of the laptop: it will not be enough for a working day. And among the minor complaints, we can mention the tight hinges that do not allow opening the laptop with one hand.

HP 240 G9 can be mentioned among the closest competitors. It has a similar price and configuration, but a 12th generation Core i5 and a screen with a standard aspect ratio and a lower resolution. And the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14IRL8, which has a more powerful processor, larger storage and an OLED display, also with a lower resolution.

What is included with the Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71?

Like most of the company’s laptops, the Acer Swift Go 14 is packed in a standard mustard-colored cardboard box with minimal printing. The kit is also minimal: the laptop itself, a 65 W power supply with a Type-C connector and documentation.

Design & Display

Acer Swift Go 14, like other representatives of the line, has a neutral, universal design. On the one hand, there are no special features, on the other hand, it is a working tool that will suit everyone. The body is almost completely made of rather thick silver-colored aluminum. Only the frame around the display is made of plastic.

The metal has a matte rough texture and does not collect fingerprints, which is very practical. Of the decorative elements, there is only a small Acer logo on the top of the lid and the same under the display.

Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 received a very good set of ports, as for an ultraportable model. On the left side there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports , HDMI and full-size USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A , which supports charging gadgets when the laptop is turned off.

On the right side of the laptop there are two LED indicators, a slot for MicroSD memory cards, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, another full-size USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A , and a Kensington Lock slot .

On the back there are two fairly massive hinges, holes for the cooling system, as well as two small rubber feet on which the laptop rests in the open position. The front face has nothing significantly interesting. Only a chamfer for almost the entire width of the main unit for more convenient opening of the laptop.

The frame around the screen is quite thin, the layout of the elements is standard. So we have a webcam with a work indicator and two microphones in the upper part. But in this case, it is worth paying attention to the webcam. Acer has taken into account modern trends, remote work, training and many video calls.

Therefore, a very good webcam is installed in the laptop. It has a QHD 1440p resolution and supports TNR (Temporal Noise Reduction ) technology to improve the image in low light conditions. And the microphones have noise cancellation technology based on Acer Purified Voice machine learning.

On the bottom panel, everything is almost standard. Four rubber feet to prevent sliding on the table, plenty of ventilation holes for the cooling system, stereo speakers and a reset button in the small hole. After removing the bottom cover, the user will be able to replace only the SSD and the wireless network adapter.

The laptop is compact and light: 312.9×217.9×14.9 mm, 1.25 kg , so it is quite suitable for daily transportation to the office and back. The quality of construction and materials is at a good level.

Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 Usage

The hinges of the display unit Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 are tight and do not allow you to open the laptop with one hand, which is not very convenient. You have to hold the lower part of the laptop. But the display is very reliably fixed in the right position and does not shake at all. The maximum opening angle is about 145°, which will be enough for the vast majority of laptop usage scenarios.

In the open position, the laptop rests on two rubber feet and the working surface with the keyboard is placed at a slight angle to the horizontal plane. This position creates a space under the laptop, which contributes to a better flow of cold air to the cooling system.

Acer Swift Go 14 received a standard layout for ultra books without an additional digital block. Everything is quite typical: a number of function keys have a reduced height. At the end of the row is the power button with a built-in fingerprint scanner. The scanner works quickly and accurately.

Enter and Backspace are one level, both Shift are long. The navigation block is not separated from other keys. Arrows to the left and right have standard sizes, but up and down are halved in height, which is a little unusual. But in general, the layout does not have critical features, so users of ultra books will not have to get used to it.

The buttons have a very comfortable, tangible and informative movement. They are pressed quite easily, but clearly. There is a white backlight with two levels of brightness. The laptop’s touchpad has very good sensitivity and accuracy, but its dimensions are not very comfortable.

You have to make too many movements. The coating is plastic, but very pleasant and feels like glass. The company calls it Ocean Glass , and it’s made from eco-friendly ABS polymer and recycled plastic from the oceans.

How good is the Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 screen?

The diagonal is 14 inches , and the resolution is 2240×1400 . Quite exotic, but the picture looks really sharp. The aspect ratio is 16:10 , which has recently been increasingly used in laptops. For working with documents and web surfing, it is really more convenient than the standard 16:9. The screen has a matte anti-glare coating. The refresh rate is standard, 60 Hz .

The screen is high-quality, has a very pleasant picture with natural colors and maximum viewing angles. The brightness level is sufficient for comfortable work in the vast majority of conditions.

Hardware measurements showed that the maximum brightness is 284.416 cd/m² , the brightness of the black field is 0.267 cd/m² , and the static contrast is 1065:1 . Very good indicators for an affordable model.

Cooling and stability of Acer Swift Go 14 SFG14-71

The cooling system includes two Twin Air fans and two copper heat pipes. The intake of cold air occurs both through the lower part of the laptop and through the keyboard. A stress test in AIDA64 showed that in the maximum performance mode, there may be a short-term decrease in performance at first, and after adapting the cooling system, under long-term load, the temperature of the components stays on average around 75° and the system works stably. At the same time, the cooling system works quietly, and the laptop body almost does not heat up.
